Jain University in Jaipur is our dream project. We, Sri Jain Shwetambar Khartar Gachchh Sangh, Jaipur, have been working on this dream project for the last two years. The Annual General Meeting (AGM), December 2012, has also passed this project. The AGM also set up a permanent committee of seven to act on the project that includes Jain scholars like Surendra Bothra and Dr. Sagarmal Jain; Dr. ML Mehta, a great administrator and former Chief Secretary, Rajasthan Government; Dr. CS Barla, an eminent economist and scholar; Surendra Golechha, industrialist and Kamal Chand Surana, businessman and me.
We have already set up a Jain Research and Study Center to give pace to the University project. Our library is enriched with several thousand Jain books. We also have all of the old books digitized. These books are also available in the Digital Library of India.
Researchers and scholars have started coming to study their research projects on Jainism. Eminent Jain scholars are guiding us on the path. Prof. John Cort, Denison University; Prof. L.A. Babb, Massachusetts University; Dr. Imre Banga, Oxford University, are a few of them from foreign universities.
Dr. Sagarmal Jain, an eminent Jain scholar, is the main guiding force in this project. We are also getting support from many other Jain scholars within India. Dr. Shivprasad, an eminent scholar in Jain history, has been appointed full-time to look after the affairs of the Jain Research and Study Center.
We are in the process of publishing a book written by Mahopadhyay Vinaysagar. The research center is also working on a project of Jain temples and Dadabadis in Jaipur. Suraj Nowlakha is sponsoring a project on the history and culture of Jains in Murshidabad.
We organize popular lectures by eminent Jain scholars in different places in Jaipur. One such lecture was recently delivered by Dr. Shreyansh Sanghai at Mahavir Sadhna Kendra, Jawaharnagar, Jaipur.
The center has organized a viva of two nuns, namely Sadhvi Saumyaguna Sri Ji and Sadhvi Kanakprabha Sri Ji, on May 6. They have been recommended for their D.Lit. and Ph.D. theses, respectively, by the examiners from Jain Viswa Bharati, Ladnu.
